Blog Fatigue!

Here we are, two years after starting this glorious blog and I'll be honest with you. I am starting to lose steam!

Not much "content" is happening these days.  Evidence of that is below, where I reviewed a computer fan.  Admittedly, this was a low point, but I have an actual picture of a human being to share.

That's right, "Papa" Bill Younger and "Phee" Phyllis Younger (my grandparents) breezed into town earlier this week for two nights.  This was the first time they saw our house and both of our dogs, and we really enjoyed their company.

Here's the promised picture of Papa with Oreo and Holly:

Amazon Product Review

In the last month or so I set out to solve a problem related to the excessive heat coming from my laptop.  Up until my latest inspiration, the only method for keeping my aging "gaming laptop" cool was to place it on an old pizza rack (which I think we acquired from the previous tenants of our last apartment), and drilling cooling holes into the Target desk upon which the entire electronic/metal monstrosity sits.

That is, until I found the Thermaltake Mobile Fan II.  Below is my review and a photo of the fan in action.

First off, I'm no computer expert. However I have been using computers on and off for the last two decades, and I've seen a wide spectrum of hardware quality. When a PC product is "external" you expect it to have quality casing and look half decent sitting on your desk. And when it's "USB" powered, you want it to be a valuable use of your precious few USB ports, not a useless add-on.

So it looks OK and it's worth a USB port. But does it do it's job?

Thermaltake II Fan

Yes. I own a "gaming laptop" which I adore because it reminds me of when I used to have time to play video games. Still, my Dell XPS Gen II laptop gets hot enough to make your hands sweat (especially in the upper right quadrant of the keyboard over the graphics card), and just generally make you feel like you're in a poorly air conditioned Internet cafe... on the other side of the world. Yes, it can heat up an entire room.

The Thermaltake Mobile Fan II keeps a quiet stream of cool air circulating over the keyboard, and surprisingly, the tops of the keys are cool to the touch.

For what it is... a tough little PC fan coughed-up outside of a desktop case, it looks and performs great. I don't hand out 5 star reviews often, but at this price point I couldn't help myself. If you've got a hot laptop like me, go for it.

Serendipity

When I woke up this morning, I knew exactly what I planned to do with my day: Check my e-mail, walk the dogs, take a shower, go the grocery store, have lunch and meet Gail for a tea date. Pretty leisurely, right? What I didn’t know when I woke up this morning was how busy things would get!

The day started off well.  I ate breakfast, computed and got out the door on my walk earlier than expected.  That’s when things started to go awry.  Oreo, Holly and I were about to turn the final corner of our walk, when we met someone unexpected.  This little gal:

I love animals, however, I always get nervous when I meet strays because a) I have enough trouble controlling my two dogs under normal circumstances and b) I never know how the different parties will get along. Luckily, this lady was a sweet one. She followed us home and I could tell that she did not want to leave.

She was lost.

I said to myself, “Laura, why did you have to go on a walk this morning?” So, I put her in the backyard, gave her some food and water, took a snapshot of her freckled face and headed to the computer to make signs to post around the neighborhood.

Soon I’m in my car, signs and tape in hand. I cover the entire development, posting flyers at every stop and street sign before coming home, taking a shower and leaving to meet Gail – all amid a constant stream of tears. This little puppy was particularly adorable and sweet and I knew that I could not keep her!

After a great time with Gail and a trip to the grocery store, I come home to a rain storm that has left my signs ruined and my pup wet. I dry her off, give her some more food and take my dogs for a walk. The tears are starting to bubble up again, when a car pulls up.

There are two girls inside and they are looking for their lost golden puppy! Minutes later they are reunited and all is right again. What a serendipitous day!
